December 6    

Ephesians 2

God's great love for us led to salvation through Jesus Christ.  It is by grace we have been saved.  That should both humble us and cause ultimate praise.  We are humbled when we realize that being a Christian is not something of our own doing.  It is a response to what Jesus has done.  We didn't save ourselves.  We didn't work our way to God's grace.  Rather God's grace came to us, and we a simply accept it by faith.  This should humble us because it is a reminder that becoming a Christian is not about our superiority and perfection, but because of God's perfect Son willingly sacrificing his life.  It also should draw us to praise to know that we are so loved that God came looking for us in the midst of our sin.  How hard is it to love someone and help them when they are going against what you want for their life, especially when you know better?  Yet, God is gracious enough that even though we turned about on Him he keeps inviting us back.  The best way to praise the Lord is both with our words and with our lives.
