March 6 Hebrews 4
Verse 12 is an incredibly important verse. To be reminded that the word of God is living an active should greatly impact how we approach our study of the Bible. We must understand that we are not just reading history, but rather we are reading God's word to change our story today. The Bible is unique in that when we read it it actually reads us as well. The Holy Spirit works as we read Scripture to point out what God's Word means for our lives. Sometimes it is through conviction that we read in Scripture that we should not be doing this or that and we know we need to stop. Sometimes the conviction is that we know we haven't been doing something, and we need to start- like sharing our faith with others as an example.
We can find comfort in the pages of Scripture. We can find guidance in the pages of Scripture. We must not read through the Bible once and just pretend that is sufficient. I have learned over the years I could be reading the same verse for the 5th or 6th time and it strikes me differently. Not because the wording was different or the meaning was different, but maybe I am in a situation or point in life where the meaning really sticks out. Maybe it is an answer to a prayer that I hadn't prayed before.
The message of the Bible will never change, but I think its impact on us and how we go about applying it may different as we read it throughout our lives. Read your Bible, read it again, read it again, keep reading because you will never reach a point where you have it all figured out or that the Bible doesn't have anything to offer.
