Notice that the church in Thessalonica had faced trouble and persecution and yet fully embraced the message of the Gospel.  They were setting a good example for the believers in other areas as well. They had a strong witness and were being used by God to impact those around them.  Paul takes note of this and the fact they had turned from idols to God.  I hope we take that as a challenge for ourselves and as a church.  What kind of impact are we having on others for Christ?  What is our witness to those around us?  I think as a church we should even see the example of Thessalonica as a challenge to us to set a good example for other churches in our area.  If people can see the difference sticking with the truth of Scripture and living it faithfully can make in our lives, then perhaps that can be an encouragement to other churches who may be unsure in our current cultural times to not compromise but remain faithful and true to God's Word.
