December 30
1 Thessalonians 5

We do not know when Jesus will return. But we need to be living our lives based on the truth that Jesus said he will return.  We need to live our lives in such a way that we understand that Jesus' return could come at any point.  We also must realize that it is possible that Jesus doesn't come back tomorrow, but it is possible that our life ends, and we go into God's presence.  We do not know when Jesus will return.  We do not know when we will be called to Heaven.  But we do know is what we are supposed to be doing while we are waiting.  We must live every day for the LORD.  We must make the most of every opportunity to tell others about Jesus.
If you were a teenager and your parents told you, they were going to come back at such a time and on such a day what will many of us do. If they expect a clean house, you may wait until the last minute to clean up the mess.  A lot of people procrastinate until the deadline is approaching and then we have to scramble to get things done.  How many college students wait until the deadline before starting a big paper?  How many people were at Walmart on Christmas Eve to start their Christmas shopping?  If Jesus told you exactly when he was coming back would you wait to serve him until the time came closer?  If God revealed to you that you will live until 80 how many of us would coast until our late 70s?  The not having a specific date and time of Jesus' return should create in an urgency and desire to serve him today and not put off holiness and obedience.  We are called to live alert and self-controlled.
