October 29, 2024–Pastor Bill’s Reading Plan

October 29   1 Corinthians 7

Paul gives some instructions on marriage.  He also talks about singleness.  The reality is we should thrive for faithful service to the LORD and finding fullness in Him whether we are married or single.  Paul gives some advice in this section when he says, "But I (not the LORD say".  This is important because he was offering advice, but he wanted to be clear this was not a Scriptural command.  He wanted to be clear this was Paul's thinking and not doctrine.  There certainly is room for people who are pursuing God and trying to serve others to give advice and wisdom.  It should be clear between what is suggestion of a godly friend and what is clear and direct command from God.

He is giving his perspective as a man who is single and who is doing great ministry.  Peter was married and he also did great ministry.  I sometimes wonder what Peter would say in response to Paul's thoughts here.
