Colossians 1 emphasizes Jesus being active in creation.  The thing about Jesus coming into the world was that everyone was surprised by his teaching, wisdom, and miracles, but if they really knew who he was there should be no surprise.  The reality is the creator stepped into the world that was messed up by the creation and he came with a plan to fix things.  His teaching was so profound to the people, yet it should not be unexpected that the creator of people has the knowledge of what people really need and what they the need to know.  Would you be surprised if the designer of a car could explain more about the car and how it is supposed to work than anyone else? The creator knows what it was designed for and its purpose.  In the same way God created people, so when Jesus comes into the world and talks about how to live, heals people from sickness, and points people to how to treat others it is the designer coming to explain who we really are supposed to be.  Jesus was there at creation and at Christmas time we celebrate how he stepped into this world to fix what we broke. When we grow closer in our knowledge of God's Word and in relationship with Jesus we also begin to understand what the purpose of our lives is because we begin to see things Jesus' way.
