March 26    2 Peter 1

Peter makes it clear that God gives us everything we need to live a life of godliness.  It does not happen automatically though.  As we grow in faith we are called to become more like Jesus.  This is why Peter says we need faith to also be accompanied with goodness, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, brotherly love.  This is a way of saying that faith produces something in us.  It changes how we think and live.
We are called to live our lives in a way that honors God. Sometimes we substitute the idea of challenging with impossible.  With all the pressures and temptations in this world it can be challenging to keep our eyes on Jesus and live for Him.  Our human nature often translates challenging into impossible or too difficult and we give up.
What God is calling us to is a process of growing in faith and godliness.  The goal is to "be holy as I am holy" according to God's standard, but we cannot give up when we mess up.  A bad moment or a bad day does not need lead to a bad week or a bad month.  When we mess up, we must be honest and make the changes that come with repentance.  Growing in godliness is a lifelong pursuit in our relationship with Jesus.  We may not be perfect, but we must allow our lives to be a continual work in progress in the hands of God. Every morning there is a new day and fresh start to live for Jesus. Let's make today better than yesterday and tomorrow better than today for God's glory.
