March 27    2 Peter 2

Peter makes a very clear and bold proclamation against false teachers that were around in the days of the early church.  Many years later of church growth and expansion, do we still have issues with false teachers?  Absolutely!  There are still people who will distort Scripture and take things completely out of context to try to make their own point rather than God's point.  There are still people who will tell people what they think they want to hear, rather than speaking the truth that they need to hear.

We must be very careful to test everything that is said against Scripture.  I hope that you test everything that I say against Scripture.  In a time where many people have the ability to voice opinions and, in some ways, become teachers to large numbers of people through social media, we must be alert.  Something that we all need these days is discernment.  It is simply the ability to judge whether statements and ideas are true and line up with Scripture or are flawed and manipulate or go against Scripture.  We must be careful because a lot of false teaching is subtle and sounds really good on the surface.  Pastors sometimes will use clever words and manipulation to build wealth for themselves at the expense of their congregation. When they get exposed (if they actually do) it gives a bad reputation for churches because it makes the news and non-believers tend to lump all churches together.   Frankly, I would not want to be a false preacher on Judgment Day.
